So, if life is nothing more than a string of moments, pieced together, creating events and situations – we can then agree that we’re all creating this experience together.
When we make something, it reasserts our footing in the existence that we all share here. Through this lens, we can break down what marketing is in a very simple fashion – it’s the messaging and digital, physical or abstract assets we share with a specific market in order to produce sales for our businesses.
But let’s dig a little deeper.
Have you ever stopped to really consider what content creation can do for you, outside of merely helping your audience through the sales process?
Creating content and putting it online for the purpose of marketing your business is so self-educational and fulfilling it’s almost overwhelming.
By having what you do every day documented thoroughly, you bring merit to your process – and you get to actually look at it.
I remember when I used to play in the band – and we would have these old videos that various people filmed for us. Years would go by, and I would look back on them. I’d watch them intently.
I’d watch in amazement as I created these original sounds with my friends. It really is a miraculous thing. In that moment, watching these videos – I knew myself, and could really see myself.
Not in a way that elicits some sort of emotional response in the form of an egoic stroke. More in the form of a deep knowing and confidence in my relationship to self. It is the idea of that is me, I am that person – and that is what I do.
Now, what do you do? What is your business? And what was the point of being filmed as a musician? It is a sort of curious thing – I don’t even recall in that time why we were being filmed – friends of ours were just filming and photographing us.
I guess you could call it marketing – sharing what it is that we did, so people could consume it, whether for monetary exchange or not.
So, let’s apply it to business – you document what you do, for the intentions of selling your products or services.
When you’re watching back, allow yourself to really enjoy the process of seeing yourself. Pay attention. Do you like the way you’re carrying yourself? What should you change? Are you thinking “ah geez, I really look like that? I had a weird inflection in my voice there.”
Laugh it off and adjust for the next one – it’s like sculpting. You’re bringing something into 3D space, and then you’re making changes as you move along.
When you stop to reflect on this, it’s pretty cool.
Every once in a while, slow down and watch back on some of the things you have made for your business in the realm of content creation. It’s a great way to understand where you were, where you’re at, and where you’re headed.
If anything at all, it can make you feel proud or make you feel embarrassed.
If you feel embarrassed, then change something. If you feel proud, then keep on keeping on.
The more you’re able to create and make changes as you go, the more you’ll understand about yourself as a business owner – and simply as a person. The more you understand about yourself as a person, the more you’ll be able to serve your market, and actually make the impact you’re wanting to make.
Film yourself, photograph yourself, write and share. Learn from what you’re doing and why you’re sharing. Then use these lessons to evolve and expand. Use the energy you gain from self-knowledge to spread your impact, and enjoy the process.
To Your Success,
