If you own a construction company, a good piece of content that you can be making for yourself is a self-shot talking head video.

Now, you’re not going to be editing these or anything, and you also don’t want to be going too in depth in terms of the amount of time and effort you want to be putting into these things.

Here’s what you should be doing to film self-shot talking head videos for your construction company.

First off, take a seat and look around a specific area on your site. Think about what you’ve done so far, what you’re doing now and what direction it’s heading in.

Now, you’re going to write a script. It can be anything – just make sure it reads in a natural way, the way you would speak the words. Pretend maybe framing was just wrapped up. You could write the following:

“Hey guys, how’s it going? Okay, so we’re on the (project name) Project here in (City name) and things are coming along nicely.

We’ve just wrapped up framing – before this we had a massive gut job done, then we threw in this beam to replace the load bearing wall, and added the addition to the back of the home here.

Next up we’re moving ahead with insulation and vapour barrier. Electrical rough ins are done and we’re getting going on the ensuite bathroom right over here.

You know, we’re really excited about this job – and it’s always so great to be able to make such a difference in homeowner’s lives.

Keep an eye on our socials over the next few days – we’ll be throwing up some photos of our favourite parts of the project.”

Or something like that.

Remember, you only need to write this script if you think you’ll need it. Not everyone has to go in this direction, but if you’re not a complete natural at speaking off the cuff to the camera, then this is a good direction to take.

Now, you’ll want to download a teleprompter app. They’re pretty self-explanatory. Upload the script in there, turn the camera on yourself and have at ‘er.

Sometimes if you don’t have a paid version of the app, you’ll have to crop the video after you’ve filmed it to take out their watermark along the bottom. Make sure you do that!

Once you’re done filming, write a good description, add some hashtags, and choose a good song to put under it when you upload it as a reel. Make sure you go into the controls and adjust the volume of your voice so it’s louder than the music.

Other than that, if you’re feeling really fancy then you can download the captions app and add some words to your video.

Have fun with this, and stick to your word – as the days go on after you’ve posted this video, throw up a bunch of photos of the project you’re working on.

Let me know if you have any questions!
